ATTENTION
Paiute Trailers would like to make sure you are clearly informed of proper procedures before towing. Please refer to your user manuals (issued at time of purchase) for more information. MAINTENANCE Proper and regular maintenance of your trailer will help to insure longer use. We suggest:
- Correct ball size for trailer hitch.
- Lug nuts should be checked and tightened regularly.
- Maintain proper tire pressure.
- Wheel bearings should be checked regularly.
- Lights and electrical connections should be checked regularly.
- Brakes should be checked and adjusted regularly.
- Load should always be evenly distributed.
PRETOW CHECKLIST
Paiute Trailers would like to make sure you are clearly informed of proper procedures before towing.
- Perform visual unit walk around
- Check tires for proper tire pressure
- Check all wheel lugs are properly torqued
- Inspect safety chains. (Must be secured to the tow vehicle)
- Test that the jack can be easily lowered and raised
- Check all gates and pins are secured tightly
- Verify all lights and plugs are functioning properly
- Check to make sure spare tire is secured properly
- Make sure all hoist, scissor lifts and cushion rams are fuctioning properly (NEVER STAND BENEATH THE TRAILER WHILE OPERATING)
- Check tow vehicle insureing it has the proper capacity to pull the trailer
- Check ball size and coupler size for compatability
- Make sure to familiarize yourself with towing and operation procedures for your trailer
MAKE REGULAR STOPS
After each 50 miles, or one hour of towing, stop and check the following items:
- Coupler Secured
- Safety Chains are Fastened and not dragging
- Cargo Secured
- Cargo Door / Gate Latched and Secured
BREAKING IN A NEW TRAILER
Wheel lugs can shift and settle quickly after being first assembled, and must be checked after the first 50 miles of driving. Failure to preform this check may result in a wheel coming loose from the trailer, causing a crash, leading to death or serious injury.
